Left side back pain could be due to reasons as simple as a snitch or even due to different conditions in the internal organs. More often than not, this kind of a pain could be a non specific back pain. However, in some cases it could be due to nerve root irritations or serious back problems.

Every human being experiences non specific left side back pain at one time or another. It is also sometimes caused due to strained muscles, and its duration may range from an hour to about twelve to eighteen hours.

Causes of Left Side Back Pain

Non specific back pain could result from an improper posture, simple back ache, muscle spasms, and strains. Change in age could also lead to non specific back pain. Conditions such as the degeneration of discs in the spine are also common culprits.

Other reasons include Piriformis Syndrome, SI dysfunction, or pinched nerves. In more serious cases, a left side back pain could also be due to something like cancer, infections, inflammatory diseases, osteoporosis, fractures, or kidney problems.

The symptom of this condition is pain. It could be pain the lower left side, the upper left side, or on the further left of the left back region.

Diagnosis of Right Side Back Pain

It is very important to diagnose the right condition and the root of the problem before treating left side back pain. As in most conditions, the diagnosis first begins with discussing the medical history with the patients followed by physical examinations. Doctors usually ask patients to perform several simple movements and observe them in order to conclude the exact reason for the pain. In certain conditions, x-rays or even blood tests might be required to rule out certain causes.

Treatments for Left Side Back Pain

Treatments for left side back pain could vary depending on the diagnosis. In case of a non specific back pain such as that occurring due to strained muscles and wrong posture, an anti inflammatory drug would provide relief. However, in case of complicated situations such as cancer, chemotherapy and radiation treatments are prescribed for the patients.

Surgery is considered only when nothing else works. Patients are also advised to practice yoga; in some cases, physical therapy is also suggested to help strengthen the muscles and provide long term relief from the pain.
